Rachel Dunaway and Mike Patterson Present CLE on the Ethical Implications of Using Artificial Intelligence
On May 17, 2019, Mike Patterson and Rachel Dunaway of the Long Law Firm presented a CLE at the Louisiana State Bar Association‘s “Issues and Trends while Practicing in the Social Media Age” held at Juban’s Restaurant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Their presentation, along with an accompanying paper, is entitled “I’m sorry Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that. Understanding the Ethical Obligations of Using Artificial Intelligence,” and incorporates the theme from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick.  Mike and Rachel evaluated several Rules of Professional Conduct implicated by the use of AI in the legal field, a discussion of how other state bar associations and supreme courts are addressing the issues raised by the use of algorithms and machine learning, and practical tips for avoiding possible ethical violations when utilizing AI
